Recently, Texas Ambulatory Surgery Center Society (TASCS) President Adam Hornback had the pleasure of visiting Forney’s first surgery center, Texas Health Surgery Center Forney.

CEO Jacob Gaytan greeted Hornback in the lobby with a warm smile, and Hornback was immediately impressed by the size of the center and organization. “You guys might just be our Best Organized Award winner this year,” he joked. 

With four operating rooms and over 17,000 square feet of space, this surgery center is ready to take care of patients’ orthopedic procedures. 

Next up, Hornback visited a longtime TASCS member and previous board member, Vicki Shutlz, RN, CASC, at the Texas Health Women’s Specialty Surgery Center Dallas. 

“I have been here basically since the center opened,”  Shutlz shared. “We have long-term staff who just love being here; ASCs are such a great place to work.”

One thing that makes Shutlz’s center so special is artwork by a local named Joseph Haubert.

“This is my favorite part of being TASCS president: Seeing all the centers and how unique they are but how we all do the same thing, as well, by providing such great services to patients,” said Hornback. 

And, of course, you never know who you’ll run into at an ambulatory surgery center; in Forney, it was Jo Buchholz, CRNA, and in Dallas, it was Theresa Alfaro, who used to work with Hornback’s mom!
