TASCS Summer Road Trip Series: Journal Entry #1

This summer, TASCS will be visiting ambulatory surgery centers throughout the great state of Texas. The goal is to learn even more about these facilities, including the procedures that are performed there and the healthcare professionals who work there. By shining an even brighter spotlight on ASCs, TASCS continues to spread awareness about the benefits of this booming industry.

The first stop on the TASCS Summer Road Trip Series was North Pines Surgery Center in Conroe, Texas. Here, TASCS Executive Director Krista DuRapau and Membership & Events Manager Jennifer Schlabach met with Tammy Stanfield, the facility’s administrator and a TASCS member.

One of the first things people notice when visiting this ASC is a “wave wall” in the waiting area. “It was designed to mimic the waves in Hawaii,” said TASCS Founder Woody Moore, who helped develop North Pines Surgery Center with architect Namer Kaim. From the design choices and environment as a whole to the customer service and the overall visit, it’s vital to keep the patient in mind. Details like this can enhance the patient experience, which is a top priority.

Tammy walked Krista and Jennifer through the business office and introduced all the staff members. At the time, they were adding extra work areas for two new employees, which is always exciting …, especially amidst a healthcare workforce shortage.

While walking through the rest of the building, Tammy shared, “I just love the layout and flow of this center" (credit to the physician owners). It makes it so easy to move the patients through.” This is another element that was planned from the beginning and that makes day-to-day operations – from how doctors and nurses get their jobs done to how patients are able to receive same-day care – possible.

The mission of North Pines Surgery Center is to provide quality surgical services to patients. These
services are provided in a safe, professional, and cost-effective manner, which results in excellent patient outcomes and satisfaction. The team works to customize treatments for acute or chronic pain.

Procedures such as joint injections, regenerative medicine treatment solutions, nerve blocks, and intrathecal pain pumps and specialties like neurospine & ortho spine surgery and podiatry are the focus within the center’s three operating rooms. With advanced therapies, the desire is to give long-term pain relief that helps people move back into active lifestyles.

Overall, the first stop on this summer tour was a success, and it was great to learn more about the people, parts, and procedures that keep this surgery center running smoothly. “Everyone was so friendly and happy,” Krista stated. “They even offered us a piece of birthday cake!”

Where will TASCS’ journey lead to next? Well, Margaritaville will definitely be a stop in August (and we’re excited to see Tammy and her staff there, as they have already registered!). Beyond that, stay tuned, as this summer road trip could include YOUR center!
