You Attended Our Conference...Now What?

Another annual conference has come and gone for the Texas Ambulatory Surgery Center Society. There were SO many of you present as speakers, vendors, sponsors, and guests...businesses and groups from all over, coming together for the ambulatory surgery center industry. We hope you all benefited from the learning, the networking, and the fun (we're looking at you, bingo-playing chickens;).

2023 annual conference

Now that you've traveled here, taken notes, gathered contacts, and returned home...What should you do?

First, A Conference Recap...

The week started with a pre-conference event for new ASC administrators, followed by updates on legal, accreditation, CMS, and hiring. Day two was a very Austin-y one; in addition to hearing on important topics like benchmarking, infection control, revenue cycle management, supply chain, and emergency management, attendees were invited to wear tie-dye shirts AND to play chicken bingo with us!

The final day was very special. We had our Capitol Day, meeting with legislators to spread awareness on the high-quality, cost-effective care of ambulatory surgery centers. Additionally, we had a resolution read and a flag flown over the Capitol in our honor, since, as of Wednesday, March 8 is officially ASC Awareness Day!

As tradition, TASCS Awards were also given out to the following: ASC Patient Advocate Award - Richard Bays, JD; Vendor of the Year Award - Nathaniel Mickish of OnHand; Rising Star Award - Courtney Dunkin, BSN, RN; ASC Innovations Award - Susan Cheek of Dallas Endoscopy Center. What Now?

Stay in touch: You may have been new to the industry and met a potential mentor during the pre-conference. You could have hit it off with someone and exchanged business cards. You (hopefully) started following us on social media. So keep in contact! A major benefit of professional organizations is to connect with like-minded folks who can help you, lead you, and inspire you.

Know the news: It's important to regularly catch up on the latest trends, due dates, regulations, and similar topics (many of which were discussed during the conference). Updates -- regarding the ASC world and our society, in general -- can be found via our social channels, newsletters, town halls, and community forums.

Act on it: Events are exciting, but it's equally exciting, if not more so, to go home and put new ideas into action. Whether you picked up a new tip on hiring, infection prevention, or supply chain management, practice what you learned!

Spread the word: The conference ended with a trip to the Texas State Capitol, in order to make those in charge of laws and policies more aware of ASCs. Advocacy is a big part of what we do, and we're always looking for more involvement. Talk to your legislators, set up a tour of your center, mark you calendar for next year's ASC Awareness Day, and learn more about taking action here.

Join the club: Finally, if you are not a member of TASCS, we'd love to have you. You can join, you can sponsor, and you can help educate others; if you'd like to speak at a town hall event or contribute to our blog, please email us at [email protected]

Again, we appreciate all of you: current readers, those who helped make our event possible, our members, and everyone that makes up the beautiful/booming ASC care sector.
